Eintracht rout secures cup progress
On this day in 1967 Forest beat Eintracht Frankfurt 4–0 to complete a 5–0 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup first-round aggregate win.
Forest turned a narrow European advantage into a commanding statement by beating Eintracht Frankfurt 4–0 at the City Ground in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup.
The first leg in Germany had already given Forest a 1–0 lead, with Joe Baker scoring the decisive goal away from home. Back in Nottingham, Johnny Carey’s side made sure there would be no nervous second-leg finish.
Baker struck twice in the first half, scoring after 13 and 35 minutes to put Forest firmly in control of the tie. Bob Chapman added a third shortly after half-time, before Barry Lyons completed the scoring in the 72nd minute.
The 4–0 win gave Forest a 5–0 aggregate victory and sent them through the first round with authority. It remains one of the club’s most emphatic early European results, from a period before the Clough years when Forest were already capable of producing serious nights on the continental stage.
