4-1 win vs Burnley boosts title chase
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1967 Forest beat Burnley at the City Ground.
Nottingham Forest kept their First Division title challenge alive with a 4-1 win over Burnley at the City Ground.
The 1966-67 side was one of Forest’s strongest before the Brian Clough era, and matches like this gave the season its force. Burnley were beaten clearly in Nottingham, with Forest producing the kind of home result that kept pressure on the top of the table.
Mike Kear scored twice in the first half, before Joe Baker added two more after the interval. Les Latcham scored for Burnley, but Forest’s four goals gave the afternoon a sense of authority and kept the title chase moving.
The win belonged to a remarkable spell in the season. Forest would face Burnley again the very next day, this time away from home, and complete a quick double that underlined the side’s strength during one of the club’s best post-war league campaigns.
