Quigley treble sinks Man City
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1958 Johnny Quigley scores a hat-trick as Forest beat Manchester City 4–0.
Johnny Quigley turned a strong Forest win into his own afternoon with a second-half hat-trick against Manchester City.
Forest beat City 4–0 at the City Ground in League Division One, with Stewart Imlach opening the scoring after nine minutes. Quigley then took over after half-time, scoring in the 57th, 74th and 81st minutes to complete the victory.
The hat-trick was a notable personal achievement in the top flight and added to Quigley’s growing importance in a Forest side that would soon enjoy a famous season. He later played his part in the 1958–59 FA Cup run, including the semi-final victory over Aston Villa.
For this particular day, though, the memory is simpler and sharper: Manchester City beaten 4–0, the City Ground enjoying a handsome First Division win, and Quigley leaving with the match ball.
