Second Division champions again
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1922 Forest complete another Second Division title-winning season.
Nottingham Forest completed their 1921-22 Second Division title-winning season with a 0-0 draw away to Leeds United.
The final-day result at Elland Road was not dramatic in scoreline, but it closed a campaign that had taken Forest back to the top of the second tier. Forest finished as Second Division champions and secured promotion to the First Division.
A goalless draw was enough to bring the league season to its conclusion. In a long campaign, Forest’s title was built less on one spectacular afternoon and more on the consistency needed to finish above the rest of the division.
The achievement mattered because it restored Forest to the highest level of English league football. After years outside the top flight, the club had earned its way back through a full championship season.
The 1921-22 title sits alongside the club’s other promotion-era honours as a reminder that Forest’s history includes several important climbs as well as cup-final triumphs.
