NOTTINGHAM FOREST HISTORY
Hull beaten in early FA Cup tie
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1922 Forest beat Hull City 3–0 in the FA Cup second round.
Forest kept a strong season moving by beating Hull City 3-0 at the City Ground in the FA Cup second round.
The tie came during a 1921–22 campaign in which Bob Masters’ side were also pushing for promotion from the Second Division. Forest did not need a replay or a late escape. George Dennis gave them the lead after 18 minutes, and Jack Spaven quickly strengthened their grip with a second goal five minutes later.
Spaven scored again midway through the second half, making the afternoon safe and completing a clean three-goal win. It was the kind of controlled cup performance that fitted a side already building confidence in the league.
The result sent Forest into the third round, where the run ended with a 4-1 defeat at Cardiff City. The season’s greater prize came in the league, with Forest finishing as Second Division champions and returning to the First Division.
