Record 6-2 away rout at Derby
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1903 Forest win 6–2 at Derby County in a record away league derby victory.
Nottingham Forest produced one of their great early East Midlands derby away wins by beating Derby County 6–2 at the Baseball Ground.
Forest’s goals came from Billy Shearman and Alf Spouncer, who both scored twice, with Sid Sugden and Grenville Morris also on the scoresheet. Derby replied through Steve Bloomer and Ben Hall, but the day belonged firmly to Forest’s forward line.
The result stands out because six goals away to Derby remains Forest’s biggest competitive winning margin and highest goals total at the Baseball Ground. It was also a heavy derby defeat for a Derby side who were struggling near the foot of the First Division table.
For Forest, the win was more than just a big scoreline. It was a rare away derby thrashing, built on goals from four different players, and it still gives the 1903 fixture a clear place in the history of the rivalry.
