Win vs Porto secures European semi
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 2026 Forest reach the Europa League semi-finals after beating Porto.
Nottingham Forest reached the Europa League semi-finals with a 1-0 win over Porto at the City Ground.
Morgan Gibbs-White scored the decisive goal, giving Forest the result they needed to progress 2-1 on aggregate. The move began when Nicolás Domínguez won the ball, allowing Gibbs-White to surge towards goal before striking from the edge of the area. His shot took a wicked deflection off a Porto defender and flew beyond the goalkeeper.
Porto had been reduced to ten men early, but the tie still carried tension because one away goal could have changed the entire mood of the night. Forest had the advantage, but they still had to manage the occasion, protect the aggregate lead, and avoid letting the match drift into danger.
The victory mattered because it sent Forest into a major European semi-final for the first time since 1984. For supporters, that gap gave the occasion its emotional weight. This was not just another knockout win; it reconnected the club with a European stage that had long felt distant.
The final whistle brought relief as much as celebration. Porto were beaten, the aggregate lead held, and Forest had another European semi-final to look forward to.
