Dyche appointment starts short reign
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 2025 Forest appoint Sean Dyche as head coach on a contract to summer 2027.
Sean Dyche returned to Forest with familiar faces around him, giving the club a new managerial team with strong City Ground connections.
The former Forest youth player was appointed head coach on a contract running until the summer of 2027. His arrival followed Ange Postecoglou’s brief spell in charge, leaving Dyche to take over a side that needed stability quickly.
The appointment carried extra local weight because his staff included Ian Woan and Steve Stone, two former Forest players who had lived important parts of the club’s story from the inside. Alongside Tony Loughlan, they gave Dyche a coaching group with both Premier League experience and clear links to the City Ground.
The first test came almost immediately. Two days later, Dyche took charge against Porto in the Europa League and Forest won 2–0, with Morgan Gibbs-White and Igor Jesus scoring from the penalty spot.
The bright start did not turn into a long reign. Dyche was dismissed in February 2026 after 114 days in charge, with a goalless draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers proving his final match.
