City Ground redevelopment pushes on
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 2025 Forest and Rushcliffe Borough Council issue a joint statement on the City Ground redevelopment.
The City Ground redevelopment story gave supporters something exciting to picture: a bigger, better home beside the River Trent.
Forest and Rushcliffe Borough Council issued a joint statement confirming they were working towards a planning committee date for the redevelopment application. It was not the final step, but it made the plans feel closer and more real after years of waiting, debate and uncertainty.
The City Ground already has history, character and one of the best settings in English football. The redevelopment offered the prospect of more seats, better facilities and a stadium more suited to the club’s Premier League ambitions without giving up that setting.
The plans later moved forward when Rushcliffe Borough Council approved the redevelopment, keeping Forest on course to grow at their historic home rather than leave it behind.
