Chelsea match confirms seventh place
On this day in 2025 Forest finish seventh after final-day defeat to Chelsea.
Nottingham Forest ended a remarkable Premier League season with a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at the City Ground, but the final table still carried a major reward.
The day itself brought frustration. Forest had the chance to affect the European and Champions League picture directly, while Chelsea arrived needing a result of their own. Levi Colwill scored early in the second half after Forest failed to clear, leaving the home side chasing the game.
Forest pushed for a response, and Chris Wood had late chances that could have changed the final afternoon. The equaliser never came, but the wider consequence still mattered: Forest completed one of their strongest league seasons in decades and finished seventh.
The mood was mixed rather than simple. There was disappointment at losing the final game, especially at home, but also recognition of what the campaign had become. Forest had not stumbled to safety. They had climbed high enough to bring European football back into the conversation.
