FA Cup semi heartbreak to Man City
On this day in 2025 Forest play their first FA Cup semi-final since 1991.
Nottingham Forest’s first FA Cup semi-final since 1991 ended in disappointment with a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City at Wembley.
The occasion mattered before the ball was even kicked. Forest had returned to the last four of the FA Cup after more than three decades away from that stage, giving supporters a Wembley day that carried pride as well as pressure.
City struck early and later added a second, leaving Forest chasing the game against one of the strongest sides in the country. Forest still had moments that might have changed the afternoon. Morgan Gibbs-White hit the woodwork twice, including a powerful left-footed volley, and Taiwo Awoniyi also struck the frame of the goal as the chance of a comeback slipped away.
For supporters, the afternoon was bittersweet. Reaching Wembley again brought a sense of progress, but the 2-0 final score confirmed that the FA Cup journey had stopped one step short of the final.
