Forest survived a late Southampton fightback to win 3–2 at the City Ground and keep their remarkable Premier League season moving.

The home side built what looked like a comfortable lead through Elliot Anderson, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Chris Wood. Anderson’s opener came when Morgan Gibbs-White flicked the ball on to him, and he drove forward before steering a low shot inside the near post from just outside the area.

Forest’s second came after a Southampton mistake near their own box, when Chris Wood stole possession and the ball fell to Hudson-Odoi, who made room before finishing from outside the area. Wood then scored the third himself, meeting Ola Aina’s cross and powering a header into the net.

At 3–0, the match seemed to be under control. Southampton’s late response changed the game, with Jan Bednarek and Paul Onuachu cutting the deficit and forcing Forest to hold on.

Ola Aina’s goal-line clearance from Bednarek’s header became one of the key late moments, helping Forest protect the win.

The victory moved Forest level on points with second-placed Arsenal, a striking measure of how far the side had pushed into the Premier League’s European conversation.
