Victory over Spurs lifts top three push
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 2024 Forest beat Tottenham Hotspur 1–0 on Boxing Day to move third in the Premier League.
Forest’s remarkable Premier League rise under Nuno Espírito Santo gathered real force with a 1–0 Boxing Day win over Tottenham Hotspur at the City Ground.
Anthony Elanga scored the decisive goal in the first half, finishing a sharp counter-attack after Morgan Gibbs-White opened the Spurs defence with an excellent pass. It was Elanga’s third Premier League goal in as many matches, and it gave Forest a lead they defended with discipline.
Tottenham had plenty of the ball but could not turn possession into a recovery. The match became even harder for them late on when former Forest player Djed Spence was sent off, leaving Spurs with ten men as the home side saw out the closing stages.
The 1–0 win moved Forest up to third in the Premier League and marked a fourth consecutive top-flight victory, their first such run since 1995. For supporters, the table position made the afternoon feel almost surreal: Forest were not just surviving, they were chasing the top places.
