City Ground land deal agreed
On this day in 2024 terms are agreed in principle for Forest to buy City Ground land.
Nottingham Forest’s long-running City Ground question took an important step forward when terms were agreed in principle for the club to buy the land beneath its home.
The announcement from Nottingham City Council mattered because the stadium had become central to wider debates about the club’s future. Supporters had heard discussions about redevelopment, relocation and long-term planning, all tied to the question of how Forest could grow while protecting the identity of the City Ground.
The agreement did not mean every stadium issue was solved immediately, and the land purchase still required the formal legal process to be completed. Even so, it gave the club a clearer route towards long-term planning at the site.
For fans, the news carried more than property detail. It touched on where the club belongs, how it grows, and whether future generations could keep watching Forest beside the Trent rather than somewhere else.
