Hudson-Odoi boosts survival hopes

On this day in 2024 Forest beat Sheffield United to boost survival hopes.

Nottingham Forest took a huge step toward Premier League safety with a 3-1 win over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The afternoon began with pressure on Forest and little room for comfort. Sheffield United went ahead from the penalty spot, increasing the tension around a match Forest badly needed to control. Nuno Espírito Santo’s side had to respond rather than panic.

Callum Hudson-Odoi gave Forest the response they needed before half-time, cutting inside and curling in a superb equaliser. Ryan Yates then blasted Forest ahead after the break, before Hudson-Odoi struck again in similar fashion to put the result beyond Sheffield United.

The win moved Forest three points clear of the bottom three with two matches left. For supporters, the relief was obvious. This was not a glamorous victory, but it was exactly the kind of result a team needs when the table is tight and every mistake feels costly.
