Penalty K.O. win over Bristol City
On this day in 2024 Forest beat Bristol City on penalties in an FA Cup replay.
Forest survived FA Cup replay tension against Bristol City, winning 5–3 on penalties after a 1–1 draw at the City Ground.
Divock Origi gave Forest an early lead, scoring his first goal for the club, but Jason Knight equalised for Bristol City soon afterwards. The tie stayed level through extra time, leaving the fourth-round replay to be settled from the spot.
Matt Turner became central to the night. The Forest goalkeeper saved Sam Bell’s penalty in the shootout, and Taiwo Awoniyi converted the decisive kick to send Forest through. It was not a smooth cup performance, but it was enough to keep the run alive.
The win set up a fifth-round meeting with Manchester United. For Forest, the night was about staying in the competition: an early goal, a difficult response, a long replay and a penalty shootout that finally went their way.
