NOTTINGHAM FOREST HISTORY
Deadline trio reported after window
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 2023 Forest’s deadline-day signings of Keylor Navas, Jonjo Shelvey and Felipe are widely reported after the January window.
Forest’s deadline-day business remained a major talking point after a frantic January window, with the arrivals of Keylor Navas, Jonjo Shelvey and Felipe widely reported after the deadline had passed.
The three deals had been completed on deadline day, but the scale of the business was still being assessed in the days that followed. Navas came from Paris Saint-Germain with Champions League pedigree, Shelvey brought Premier League experience from Newcastle United, and Felipe added defensive experience after his time with Atlético Madrid.
The triple move showed how aggressively Forest were trying to strengthen Steve Cooper’s squad. The club had only returned to the Premier League the previous summer, and the January market became another attempt to add quality, depth and calm to a group still adapting to the division.
The three signings aged differently. Navas made the quickest impact, producing important saves on debut against Leeds United, while Felipe became a useful defensive presence when available. Shelvey found it harder to become a lasting part of the side. Together, though, the trio captured the urgency and risk of Forest’s first survival fight back in the top flight.
