Gibbs-White signs from Wolves
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 2022 Forest sign Morgan Gibbs-White from Wolves during their Premier League return.
Morgan Gibbs-White’s move from Wolves became one of the defining signings of Forest’s Premier League return era.
The transfer came during a huge rebuild after promotion under Steve Cooper. Forest had needed to add players quickly, but Gibbs-White was more than just another arrival. Cooper knew him from England youth football and wanted a creative player who could link midfield and attack.
The fee brought pressure, but Gibbs-White soon became central to the team’s identity. He carried the ball, pressed aggressively, created chances and gave Forest personality in the final third during a difficult survival fight.
His first season ended with Forest staying in the Premier League, and his influence grew as the campaign developed. He assisted Taiwo Awoniyi’s decisive goal against Arsenal in May 2023, the win that confirmed survival.
Gibbs-White later remained one of the club’s most important modern players. The signing from Wolves came during a chaotic transfer window, but it aged into a cornerstone move for a side trying to build something more lasting after promotion.
