McKenna wins Player of Season
On this day in 2022 Scott McKenna is named Forest Player of the Season after promotion.
Scott McKenna’s Player of the Season award recognised a defender who had become central to Forest’s promotion-winning campaign.
The 2021–22 season ended with the club returning to the Premier League through the play-offs, and McKenna’s consistency formed an important part of that rise. In a team remembered for momentum, belief and attacking threat, his defensive reliability gave the side a base to build from.
McKenna’s contribution was not always about headline moments. Centre-backs in successful promotion teams often matter because of the quieter work: winning first contacts, holding shape, dealing with pressure and keeping standards steady through difficult spells.
For supporters, the award reflected trust. Forest’s season had changed dramatically after a poor start, and the players who stayed dependable through that transformation became especially valued.
Scott McKenna’s award was a reminder that promotion had been built from the back as well as celebrated at the front.
