Victory over QPR on promotion march

On this day in 2022 Forest beat QPR during their promotion push.

Eras and timeline markers

Return to top flight

Nottingham Forest strengthened their promotion push with a 3-1 Championship win over Queens Park Rangers at the City Ground.

Steve Cooper’s side were building momentum, and matches like this helped turn belief into something more serious. QPR were promotion rivals, so the result carried extra value beyond the three points. Forest were not just winning games; they were beating teams around them.

After QPR had gone ahead through Andre Gray, Djed Spence sparked the comeback with a spectacular long-range strike. Ryan Yates and Brennan Johnson then scored late to complete the turnaround and give the win a strong modern identity.

The 3-1 victory mattered because it pushed Forest further into the promotion conversation. The City Ground had begun to feel like a place where the season was gathering force, and this win over QPR was one more step towards the eventual return to the Premier League.
