Clough anniversary marked vs Barnsley
On this day in 2019 Forest mark Brian Clough’s anniversary during the Barnsley match.
Nottingham Forest marked the fifteenth anniversary of Brian Clough’s death during the home match against Barnsley at the City Ground.
The club encouraged supporters to join a minute’s applause, with an image of Clough shown on the big screens. It was a simple tribute, but one that fitted the relationship between Forest and the manager who changed the club’s history.
Clough’s achievements still sit at the centre of Forest’s identity. The league title, the European Cups, the League Cups, and the scale of the rise under Clough and Peter Taylor give these anniversaries a meaning beyond ordinary pre-match ceremony.
For supporters inside the ground, the applause connected the modern matchday with the club’s greatest era. It was not a trophy lift or a famous win, but it was a reminder that Clough’s presence still runs through the City Ground.
