Marinakis takeover completed
On this day in 2017 Marinakis completes his Forest takeover.
Evangelos Marinakis completed his takeover of Forest, bringing the Al-Hasawi ownership era to an end and opening another major chapter in the club’s modern history.
The deal gave Marinakis 100% control of the club and arrived after years of instability, frustration and repeated managerial change. Forest had been living with uncertainty both on and off the pitch, and the takeover immediately carried the weight of expectation.
Ownership changes are not remembered in the same way as goals or cup ties, but they can reshape a club’s direction. This one mattered because it changed the decision-making structure at the top and reset the conversation about ambition, investment and standards.
For supporters, the takeover brought cautious hope rather than instant certainty. The club still had to prove that change behind the scenes would lead to progress on the pitch.
Even so, it was a defining administrative moment. Forest entered the Marinakis era, with all the scrutiny, ambition and pressure that would follow.
