Yeovil dash League 1 promotion hopes
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 2007 Forest lose the League One play-off semi-final to Yeovil Town.
Nottingham Forest’s attempt to escape League One collapsed in extraordinary fashion as Yeovil Town won 5-2 after extra time at the City Ground and took the play-off semi-final 5-4 on aggregate.
Forest had won the first leg 2-0 away at Huish Park, leaving supporters expecting the job to be finished at home. Instead, Yeovil scored first and turned the tie into one of the most dramatic play-off comebacks of the decade.
Scott Dobie scored just after half-time, giving Forest a goal that should have steadied the evening, but Yeovil kept forcing the tie back open. Gary Holt then scored in extra time, briefly pulling Forest level on aggregate after the visitors had moved ahead.
The momentum still swung violently toward Yeovil. Their fifth goal on the night ended Forest’s recovery and confirmed a 5-4 aggregate defeat.
By full time, Forest’s promotion hopes had disappeared. The 5-2 defeat confirmed another season in the third tier and became one of the most painful nights of the club’s League One years.
