Robertson earns Hall of Fame honour
On this day in 2016 John Robertson is announced for National Football Museum Hall of Fame induction.
John Robertson’s Hall of Fame announcement recognised one of the most influential players in Forest’s greatest era.
For Forest supporters, Robertson was never just a winger from the European Cup sides. He was the player who gave those teams much of their imagination and balance, supplying quality from the left and shaping matches with calm, clever decisions in the final third.
His place in club history had long been secure. Robertson was central to Brian Clough’s side as Forest rose from the Second Division to become champions of England and then champions of Europe. His delivery and composure were part of the team’s identity at the highest level.
The announcement carried a sense of wider recognition beyond the City Ground. It placed Robertson’s contribution within the broader story of the English game, not only within Forest memory.
For supporters who had watched him in red, the honour confirmed something they already knew. Robertson was one of the finest players ever to wear the shirt, and his role in Forest’s most successful years remained impossible to separate from the trophies themselves.
