Ben Osborn wins young player award
On this day in 2016 Ben Osborn is named Football League Young Player of the Month.
Ben Osborn’s growing influence at Forest was recognised when he was named Football League Young Player of the Month for January 2016.
The award reflected a period when Osborn had become more than just an academy graduate trying to break through. He was developing into a regular first-team midfielder, trusted for his energy, technique and willingness to take responsibility in possession.
Osborn went on to become a long-serving first-team player for Forest, making more than 200 league appearances and winning the club’s Player of the Season award for 2017–18. His progress carried extra value because he had come through the academy and built a senior career at the City Ground.
He later moved to Sheffield United in 2019, joining a newly promoted Premier League club. The January award stands as a marker of the stage when his promise was being recognised beyond Nottingham, before he became one of the more established academy graduates of that period.
