FFP transfer embargo for rest of season
On this day in 2015 Forest face an FFP transfer embargo for the rest of the season.
Nottingham Forest’s Christmas Eve was overshadowed by an FFP transfer embargo for the rest of the 2015-16 season.
The Football League sanction followed Forest’s 2014-15 accounts, with the club judged to have exceeded the permitted FFP loss limit. At the time, Championship clubs were allowed a maximum deviation of £6m, made up of £3m in adjusted losses plus £3m of shareholder investment.
The embargo meant Forest would be unable to sign players freely in the January transfer window. They could only bring in a player if another left on similar transfer-fee and wage terms, sharply reducing the club’s room to manoeuvre at a time when Championship sides often looked to January for solutions.
The story fitted a wider period of frustration and instability around the club. Instead of looking ahead to the transfer window with optimism, Forest entered the second half of the season with financial rules shaping what could and could not be done.
