Pearce starts manager job
On this day in 2014 Stuart Pearce begins his job as Forest manager.
Stuart Pearce’s return as Nottingham Forest manager carried an emotional pull few appointments could match.
Pearce was already one of the club’s most admired modern figures, remembered for his force, commitment and leadership as a player. His confirmation as manager brought that connection back to the City Ground, even though his contract was set to begin later in the summer.
The appointment came with clear supporter feeling. Forest had been through repeated managerial changes, and Pearce’s name offered familiarity, pride and a sense of identity at a club still searching for stability.
His managerial spell began brightly, with Forest making a strong start to the 2014-15 Championship season, but the momentum did not last. A long poor run followed, and Pearce was dismissed in February 2015 with the team in mid-table.
For many fans, the appointment remains a complicated memory. The announcement itself was loaded with affection and expectation, but the spell that followed showed how difficult it was to turn a legendary playing connection into lasting managerial success.
