Trevor Francis Hall of Fame

On this day in 2014 Trevor Francis is named for Hall of Fame honour.

Trevor Francis was announced among the 2014 National Football Museum Hall of Fame inductees, adding another layer of recognition to a landmark football career.

For Forest supporters, Francis will always be tied to one of the most famous transfers in English football. His arrival from Birmingham City made him Britain’s first £1 million player, and the attention around that fee placed him at the centre of a changing football landscape.

He then delivered on the biggest stage, scoring the winning goal for Forest in the 1979 European Cup final against Malmö. That header gave Brian Clough’s side the trophy and ensured Francis would be remembered for more than the size of his transfer fee.

The Hall of Fame honour recognised a career that stretched beyond Forest, but his City Ground chapter remained central to the story. Few players have arrived with such scrutiny and then produced such a defining moment.

For Forest, the announcement was another reminder of the club’s place in football history: a record-breaking signing, a European final goal, and a player whose name still carries weight.
