Henderson late winner at Blackburn
On this day in 2013 Darius Henderson scores a stoppage-time winner as Forest beat Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
Darius Henderson gave Forest a dramatic 1-0 Championship win over Blackburn Rovers with a stoppage-time finish at Ewood Park.
The match had looked set to end goalless, with Forest pushing for a breakthrough but unable to turn pressure into a decisive moment. Billy Davies’ side were trying to build early momentum in the new season, and an away win at Blackburn would carry extra weight after years of poor results there.
The goal came in the second minute of added time. Jamie Mackie challenged goalkeeper Jake Kean and reacted quickly, creating the chance for Henderson to lash the ball into an open goal.
It was a scruffy, late, valuable Championship winner rather than a polished attacking move, but that suited the occasion. Forest left Ewood Park with three points and back-to-back league wins at the start of the season.
The result also ended a long wait for success at Blackburn, where Forest had rarely won since the late 1970s. Henderson’s finish made the afternoon feel like a sharp early statement in a campaign that began with real optimism.
