Wes Morgan produced one of the more unexpected Nottingham Forest goal moments with a thunderbolt in a 2-0 Championship win over Crystal Palace at the City Ground.

The goal came deep into first-half stoppage time, giving Forest the breakthrough just before the interval. Morgan was better known for defending than spectacular finishing, which made the strike stand out even more: a powerful effort remembered simply as a thunderbolt.

Nathan Tyson added the second late on, making the result more comfortable, but the identity of the day belongs to Morgan’s opener. It gave Forest control of the match and gave supporters the kind of goal that sticks in the memory because it came from an unlikely source.

The 2-0 win was useful in the Championship campaign, but the lasting image is Morgan stepping up with a thunderbolt rather than simply another home victory over Palace.
