3–0 Huddersfield win boosts title push
On this day in 1998 Forest beat Huddersfield Town 3–0 during the Division One title campaign.
Forest strengthened their Division One title campaign with a 3–0 win over Huddersfield Town at the City Ground.
Dave Bassett’s side were moving with purpose towards promotion, and this was the kind of home result that kept pressure on the rest of the division. Pierre van Hooijdonk scored twice, with Thierry Bonalair also on target, giving Forest a controlled and convincing league win.
Van Hooijdonk’s goals were central to the season. His finishing gave Forest a cutting edge, while the team around him had the confidence of a side that expected to win at home. Huddersfield were beaten clearly, and the result kept Forest’s title push moving.
The season ended with Forest winning the Division One title and returning to the Premier League. This victory was one of many steps in that campaign, but it captures the rhythm of the run-in: strong home form, reliable goals and a team building steadily towards promotion.
