Nottingham Forest gave the City Ground a Premier League home win by beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1.

Steve Stone gave Forest the breakthrough before half-time, turning in a tap-in after Stuart Pearce’s pass had opened the chance. Ian Woan then made it 2-0 after the break, finishing right-footed from a Chris Bart-Williams pass to give Forest control of the afternoon.

Tottenham pulled one back late, but Forest had already done enough. Against an established Spurs side, the result offered a satisfying afternoon built around two players strongly associated with Forest’s mid-1990s identity.

The victory mattered because it showed Forest still had sharpness and character in a demanding Premier League season. Home wins against established opponents carried a particular value, not only in the table but in the mood around the ground.

For supporters, the names on the scoresheet helped fix the game in memory. Stone and Woan were players who connected naturally with the crowd, and their goals gave the afternoon a recognisable Forest feel.
