Collymore brace boosts promotion push
On this day in 1993 Forest win 4–1 at Bristol City during Frank Clark’s promotion season.
Nottingham Forest turned a tight match at Ashton Gate into a 4–1 away win over Bristol City in League Division 1.
The match was 0–0 at half-time, and Bristol City had tested Forest’s promotion credentials for almost an hour. The breakthrough came after an Ian Woan run helped force a corner, with Stan Collymore turning and scoring with a shot that went in off Stuart Munro.
City equalised almost immediately through Rob Edwards, after Mark Crossley could only parry Wayne Allison’s header. Forest then took control: Neil Webb restored the lead by stabbing in Des Lyttle’s near-post cross, Collymore swept past Munro and lashed in the third, and Woan added the fourth from a Collymore pass.
The result extended Forest’s unbeaten run and kept Frank Clark’s side moving through the promotion race. Collymore’s two goals and direct role in the final goal made the match a clear sign of the attacking force that would help take Forest back to the top flight.
