Clough goal helps beat Palace
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1990 Forest beat Crystal Palace 3–1 at the City Ground.
Forest earned a solid First Division home win with a 3–1 victory over Crystal Palace at the City Ground.
Nigel Clough, Steve Hodge and Nigel Jemson scored for Forest, giving Brian Clough’s side the platform for a comfortable league result. Crystal Palace pulled one back through John Salako, but the points stayed in Nottingham.
The win came during another competitive season for Forest at the top level. The side still had plenty of familiar quality, with Clough linking the team to the club’s recent past and Hodge and Jemson adding further attacking threat.
Forest’s season later brought another major day at Wembley, as they beat Oldham Athletic to win the League Cup. This Palace victory was not the defining result of the campaign, but it was part of the same strong period: a confident Forest side collecting home wins while still competing for silverware.
