Walsh and Riley seal victory at Coventry
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1984 Forest win 3–1 at Coventry City as Colin Walsh and David Riley score.
Nottingham Forest earned a convincing 3–1 away win over Coventry City at Highfield Road in League Division One.
Forest went ahead through a Micky Adams own goal, before Terry Gibson levelled for Coventry from the penalty spot. Colin Walsh then restored Forest’s lead and David Riley made it 3–1, giving the away win a clear shape.
Highfield Road was rarely an easy place to visit, so a three-goal return gave the result a solid place in the season’s record. Forest did not merely protect a lead; they built on it and left Coventry with the points secure.
The match stands as a good example of a strong Forest away day in the mid-1980s. It may not carry the fame of a final or a derby, but the opponent, venue, scorers and scoreline give it the shape of a proper league memory.
