2 wins in 2 days over Burnley
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1967 Forest complete a quick Burnley double.
Nottingham Forest completed an unusual quick double over Burnley by winning 2-0 away in the First Division just one day after beating the same opponents at the City Ground.
The schedule gave the pair of results a distinctive place in the season. Forest had beaten Burnley 4-1 in Nottingham, then had to repeat the job away from home almost immediately. Taking both matches turned a good result into a statement of consistency.
Joe Baker scored both goals for Forest, striking once in each half to settle the match. The 2-0 away win showed that Forest’s strength was not limited to home form, which mattered in a title-chasing season.
Together, the two Burnley matches summed up why the 1966-67 team is remembered with such respect. Forest took four points from two games in two days, scored six, conceded one, and kept their push near the top of English football moving.
