Double over Everton boosts title charge
On this day in 1966 Forest win at Everton during their First Division runner-up campaign before beating them again 3 days later.
Nottingham Forest earned an important First Division away win by beating Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park before beating them again in the same week.
The only goal came from Ian Storey-Moore after 22 minutes, giving Forest a result that stood out in one of the club’s strongest league campaigns. Everton were a serious opponent, and a win on Merseyside carried real value in the Christmas period.
The 1-0 scoreline shows how small the margin was, and Storey-Moore’s goal was enough to decide it. The result also came three days before Forest beat Everton 1–0 again in the First Division at the City Ground on Boxing Day.
The season later ended with Forest finishing as First Division runners-up. The Everton win belongs to that wider run: a compact, hard-earned result that helped keep the club among the country’s leading sides.
