5–0 rout of West Ham
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1965 Forest beat West Ham United 5–0 at the City Ground.
Forest swept aside West Ham United 5–0 at the City Ground in a First Division result that stood out sharply in an otherwise difficult spell.
Johnny Carey’s side had been struggling for league rhythm, but the match turned quickly once Alan Hinton opened the scoring after half an hour. Frank Wignall and Ian Storey-Moore then scored in quick succession before half-time, giving Forest a 3–0 lead against Ron Greenwood’s West Ham.
Colin Addison added the fourth soon after the interval, and substitute David Wilson completed the scoring late on.
West Ham’s side included major names such as Bobby Moore, Martin Peters and Geoff Hurst, which made the scoreline even more striking. For Forest supporters, the 5–0 win offered a rare afternoon of freedom and finishing power during a season that had not started smoothly.
