NOTTINGHAM FOREST HISTORY
Cup exit to Saints in 2nd replay
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1963 Forest lose to Southampton after a second FA Cup replay.
Nottingham Forest’s FA Cup run ended heavily when Southampton won 5-0 in the second replay of their quarter-final tie at White Hart Lane.
The fixture came after the sides had already failed to settle the tie, including a 3-3 draw after extra time in the previous replay. By the time the second replay arrived, the tension of the cup run had turned into a demanding test away from both clubs’ usual grounds.
The final scoreline made the exit a painful one. A quarter-final defeat is always difficult, but a 5-0 loss after multiple attempts to decide the tie carried a sharper sense of disappointment.
The match is remembered because it closed a long and draining FA Cup contest. Forest had stayed alive through earlier drama, but Southampton finally ended the run decisively.
