Six goal rout at Palace
On this day in 1951 Forest beat Crystal Palace 6–1 away in Division Three South.
Forest delivered one of the emphatic away wins of their promotion season by beating Crystal Palace 6-1 at Selhurst Park.
The match came in Division Three South, with Forest top of the table and Palace stuck at the bottom. Wally Ardron gave Forest the early control they wanted, scoring after 16 minutes, but the real damage came after the break.
Tot Leverton made it 2-0 early in the second half, and Tucker Johnson added another almost immediately. Palace briefly pulled one back, but any thought of a comeback disappeared in a ruthless five-minute burst. Freddie Scott scored Forest’s fourth, Ardron struck again for his second of the afternoon, and Collin Collindridge completed the rout.
The result showed the gap between the division’s strongest side and its weakest. Forest stayed top, kept their title charge moving, and went on to win the 1950–51 Division Three South championship.
It was also another marker in Ardron’s extraordinary season. His two goals at Selhurst Park formed part of a club-record league haul of 36, while Forest finished the campaign with 101 league goals.
