Pre-war 2-1 win over Hull
On this day in 1930 Forest beat Hull City in Division Two.
Nottingham Forest beat Hull City 2-1 at the City Ground in League Division Two.
The match came only days after Forest’s FA Cup quarter-final replay disappointment at Sheffield Wednesday, giving the side a quick return to league football. That context gives the result a little extra weight. After cup frustration, a home league win offered something more settled and useful.
A 2-1 scoreline suggested a contest that still needed managing. Forest did enough at the City Ground to take the points, with Hull City beaten in front of the Nottingham crowd. In a period when detailed match action is not always preserved in the same way as modern games, the result itself remains the central football fact.
The win belongs to the ordinary but important rhythm of a league season. It was not the headline moment of Forest’s March in 1930, but it gave supporters a home victory over Hull City and helped move the focus back from cup elimination to Division Two football.
