Pre-WW2 5-2 win at Bristol City
On this day in Nottingham Forest history in 1928 Forest score five at Bristol City in a 5–2 Division Two away win.
Forest produced a powerful away attacking display by beating Bristol City 5–2 at Ashton Gate in League Division Two.
The match was level at half-time, but Forest took command after the interval. Billy Dickinson had given them an early lead, and Sam Jennings then became the central figure, scoring three second-half goals. Cyril Stocks also scored late on as Forest pulled away from Bristol City.
The 5–2 scoreline gave the afternoon a clean, memorable shape: an away side travelling to Ashton Gate and returning with five goals. For supporters following Forest in the Second Division, it was the kind of result that made the league table feel more hopeful and the attack look dangerous.
Jennings’s hat-trick made the win more than just a good away result. It gave the match an individual headline and turned a level game into a convincing victory.
Forest moved up the table after the win, and the afternoon remained one of the brighter attacking moments from that early part of the 1928–29 season.
