Early Notts County 5-0 thrashing
On this day in 1900 Forest record a 5–0 Notts County rout, one of the biggest Nottingham derby wins.
Forest delivered one of the clearest Nottingham derby statements in their league history by beating Notts County 5–0 at the City Ground.
The fixture already carried local weight. Forest and County were two of the oldest clubs in the game, and league meetings between them brought the rivalry into a regular competitive setting at the turn of the century.
Bob Norris gave Forest the lead in the 9th minute, but the derby was still only 1–0 at half-time. After the break, Forest pulled away decisively. Fred Forman scored five minutes into the second half, before John Calvey, Grenville Morris and Alf Spouncer added further goals to turn the afternoon into a rout.
A five-goal margin in a derby needed little decoration. The result stood alongside Forest’s later 5–0 win over County in 1953 as the club’s biggest recorded league victory in the fixture, making it more than just another First Division result.
For supporters looking back, the importance lies in the scale of the win. Derby matches are often remembered for tension and small margins, but this one became part of the rivalry record because Forest won it so heavily.
