FOREST HISTORY · Historic event
Football Alliance champions
On this day in 1892 Forest complete their Football Alliance title-winning season.
Nottingham Forest completed their Football Alliance title-winning season away to Crewe Alexandra.
The final match itself ended in a 2-0 defeat, but the wider achievement had already been secured across a strong league campaign. Forest finished top of the Football Alliance table, ahead of Newton Heath, Small Heath and Sheffield Wednesday.
It was an important moment in the club’s early history. The Football Alliance was a short-lived but significant competition, and Forest’s title came just before the club moved into the Football League structure.
Although there was no final-day victory to celebrate, the season still gave Forest one of their earliest league honours. Winning the Football Alliance showed that the club was already building a serious competitive identity before its later FA Cup and Football League successes.
The title remains a reminder that Forest’s honours story began well before the famous trophy wins of the twentieth century.
