Fans unveil Our Redshirts display

On this day in 2023 supporter group Forza Garibaldi unveiled its Our Redshirts display before Forest secured Premier League survival.

Culture and identity

Supporter folklore

Forza Garibaldi, the Nottingham Forest supporter group known for flags, banners and large-scale fan displays, unveiled its Our Redshirts display before Forest faced Arsenal at the City Ground.

The display appeared on one of the most important days of Forest’s modern Premier League era. After promotion in 2022, the club had spent much of the season fighting to stay in the top flight, and the Arsenal match became a decisive survival moment.

Forest beat Arsenal 1–0 through Taiwo Awoniyi’s first-half goal, securing Premier League safety and ending Arsenal’s title challenge. The goal came after Martin Ødegaard’s loose pass in midfield gave possession to Morgan Gibbs-White, who drove forward and released Awoniyi to poke the ball home.

Forza Garibaldi’s display helped frame the day as a supporter-led survival occasion, tying the team’s red shirts, the crowd and the club’s top-flight identity together.
